Energy Dance
Origin

Built From
The Ground Up

Energy Dance started in 2014 as a single hip hop class in a rented church basement in Havre De Grace. No mirrors, no sprung floor, no waiting list. Just a handful of people who wanted to move and didn't feel like they belonged anywhere else.

Ten years later we're in a proper studio with four instructors, fifteen classes a week, and students ranging from age three to seventy-two. The basement energy never left.

Philosophy

Movement Is
A Birthright

We don't run a performance factory. We don't chase competition trophies. We teach because we believe that every person — regardless of age, background, or body — has a right to move with intention and joy.

Our classes draw from hip hop culture, somatic practice, West African tradition, and contemporary technique. We trace lineage. We honor where movement comes from. And we make space for everyone who shows up.

The Space

Havre De Grace,
Maryland

Our studio is a converted warehouse space on the north end of town — sprung hardwood floor, high ceilings, natural light in the mornings. It's a working space, not a showroom. Come as you are.

The Instructors

The People
Who Teach

Common Questions

What People
Ask First

Do I need dance experience to join?
No. Every class at Energy Dance is built to welcome beginners. Our instructors meet you where you are — not where they think you should be.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you can move in. Bare feet, socks, or soft-soled shoes depending on the class. We'll let you know if anything specific is needed.
How do I know which class is right for me?
Come to a trial class — we offer a free first session for new students. You'll know within the first ten minutes whether it fits.
Are classes drop-in or do I need to register?
Both. You can drop in to most classes, or register for a session if you want a consistent spot. Check the schedule page for current availability.
What's the age range for adult classes?
We have students from their 20s to their 70s in adult classes. There is no upper limit. Movement doesn't expire.
